Real Madrid goalkeeper Andre Lunin was their best player during Tuesday night's encounter against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League as Los Blancos won the match 1-0.
Brahim Diaz’s solo goal was the difference between the two sides as the Whites recorded a hard-fought victory at the Red Bull Arena Leipzig Stadium.
Madrid struggled against the home side and were on the back foot for the majority of the match. Leipzig made attack after attack but all their efforts were put to waste by Lunin, who, according to head Carlo Ancelotti, had his best game in Madrid’s shirt.
Lunin made nine saves against Leipzig, which was the most in a single Real Madrid match in UCL. He equalled Courtois’ record of making as many saves in the 2022 Champions League final against Liverpool.
”Lunin played a wonderful game tonight,” Ancelotti said after the match. “This has been Lunin's best game since I know him.”
Brahim replaced Jude Bellingham who picked up a knock during La Liga match against Girona. The 24-year-old has been in spectacular form this season and he once again stepped up in crucial moments.
Ancelotti praised the Spaniard for a fantastic performance and stated that he had known him for a long time.
"Brahim? I see him stronger after his spell at AC Milan. He always helped the team whenever he played. He scored a spectacular goal tonight. We have to highlight his game,” Carlo said.
The Italian then talked about the match, he believed that the team could have scored more goals.
“We are happy but we could have scored more. We could have also conceded so we leave satisfied. This is just a small advantage,” Ancelotti said.
"We are surviving after all the injuries in defense because all the players help in defense. The midfielders, the wingers... all of them."
The return leg of the UCL tie is in Spain on March 6.
